I consider myself a fortunate person. I have been traveling six months a year for 20 years, visiting all kinds of different places and immersing myself in a variety of cultures. These experiences have shaped the person I am and comprise the bulk of my wealth. My few personal possessions have also become a part of who I am. When I look at my Harley-Davidson "Fatboy" a smile creeps across my face every single time. Even after 18 years, my romance with that machine has never waned. And when I fire up the engine, the sound of the V-Twin is music to my ears. Likewise, when I pull my Nikon camera from the bag, I feel as though I am cradling a baby in my hands. And I have come to feel the same about my Wisper XPS sea kayak. It has become an extension of my body. From the first time I sat in the cockpit, I knew it was a perfect match. It wrapped around me and fit like a glove. With each ensuing paddle stroke, that bond strengthened and I look forward to a relationship that will last years. Over the course of the past months, I have experienced every kind of condition possible on the ocean. On glassy days, we glide through the water with the only ripples being ours. When the wind is howling, the swell pumping and the tide ripping, there is havoc on the water and the Wisper handles this with aplomb. I logged several hundred kilometers day tripping before embarking on the "Border to Border" expedition and my confidence in the craft grew daily. Loaded with gear, the Wisper is unbelievably stable, tracking true and ruling the ocean. Over the 685km journey my respect for this kayak grew every single day. I love my Wisper XPS. How could it get any better? |
